Which illnesses are covered?

Sun Critical Illness Insurance provides coverage for the following twenty-four conditions and illnesses:

Full payments: The following illnesses and conditions qualify for a full payment of the critical illness coverage amount you have:

Aplastic anemia Kidney failure
Alzheimer's disease Loss of limbs
Aortic surgery Loss of speech
Benign brain tumour Major organ transplantation
Bacterial meningitis Major organ transplant waiting list
Blindness Multiple Sclerosis
Cancer Occupational HIV infection
Coma Paralysis
Coronary artery bypass surgery Parkinson's disease
Deafness Severe burns
Heart attack Stroke
Heart valve replacement  

When a benefit for a full payout condition is paid, the policy ends. 

Partial payments: The following illnesses and conditions qualify for a partial payment based on the amount of critical illness coverage you have:

  • Ductal carcinoma in situ of the breast
  • Stage A (T1a or T1b) prostate cancer
  • Stage 1A malignant melanoma
  • Coronary angioplasty
Congenital heart disease Cystic fibrosis
Muscular dystrophy Cerebral palsy
Type 1 diabetes  

If a partial benefit is paid, your policy will remain active and you can still make a claim for any of the full payout illnesses and conditions. Your critical illness coverage amount will not be reduced by any partial payments that are paid. You may make a claim only once for each of the four partial payment conditions.

Childhood illnesses and conditions: Policies for children also cover the following five childhood illnesses and conditions until the child turns 24 years old:

  • Cerebral palsy
  • Congenital heart disease
  • Cystic fibrosis
  • Muscular dystrophy
  • Type 1 diabetes mellitus

When a benefit for a childhood illness or condition is paid, the policy ends. The policy will also end when the child turns 24.

How can the policy benefit be used?

The critical illness insurance benefit is paid as a lump sum payment. This payment can be used at your discretion without any restrictions or conditions.
